One of the most common forms of online advertising on the internet is text ads advertising. I use this form of advertising often because I find that requires more advanced skills than the other forms of advertising discussed. For example, you need some sales skills to write the text ads. Text ads are still an excellent way to advertise online. I am certain you have seen text ads often while browsing online. The most common text ad are Google Adwords, the ads you see on the lower right corner with the heading “Ads by Google.”
Text ads are a great way to get your product seen by the public. Text ads are not the be all end all; depending on what you are selling you may find one method works better another. You will find additional methods of advertising by clicking on the Advertising section of this blog. There you will find everything from banners, to forums, to blogging and more than you could imagine.
So, you have decided that you want to set up a text ad campaign. Then I recommend that you keep reading. I will present some basic information and give you a number of resources to get you started writing good quality text ads.
There are three key elements you need when structuring your text ad:
1. Title
2. Description
3. Target URL
Some services will only ask for the title and target URL and they look like this “CNN Latest News”, it’s a text link ad, the link title or anchor text is the name of the targeted URL and the target URL to this site itself.
When it comes to the more descriptive text ads, they will start with a “Title.”
Your title must be catchy, or an attention grabber. You must not make it too long, only a limited number of characters are allowed by some services. Focus on the product, program or website name. Use something that will attract the audience you are aiming at. For example, if you are selling children’s toys then mentioning Superman would catch that target audience’s attention.
Your website or product description goes in the ads “Body” section. Remember to put information that your target audience would want to know. Use the title to grab their attention, the body is used to draw them to the conclusion where you direct them to a course of action, like visiting the website through your link.
“Target URL” is the link that your prospective customer will be redirected through when they click your text ad If you captured their attention with your title and kept it with the body and convinced them there was nothing else to do but click on your link that is when you get paid.
Here is example of how a Text Link Advertisement with description looks like:
USA Tours (link to domain.com)
Custom North American Tours
wholesale prices
www.domain.com
A good way to develop your own catchy ads is to look at other ads. Ask yourself, “What makes me want to click their link? What makes me want to close this window without looking any further?” This is a great way to get ideas for your own niche related blog ads.
One final tip is to consider using CPC as your payment option, because text ads will get a lot of impressions since they are generally shown in groups.
